Turn on ipad > asks for passcode>keypad comes on screen > keypad buttons are showing numeric entry option . How do I switch from numeric to alpha on passcode keypad ?

Touch the abc key on the left of the keypad for entry of any letters.
Touch the 123 key on the left of the keypad for entry of any numbers

Perhaps you are trying to change an existing Passcode from numeric to alpha-numeric? If so, this is achieved from iPad settings.
