Apple Maps has no sound
At first Apple Maps talked. Then a few days ago it stopped. rather it gave the audibly first step in direction and then went silent until end of trip, when it said you are here.

Are you sure you have turned on "All directions are spoken" in your maps application, rather than just special events or how that might be called?
Elaboration, so, while guidance is active, on the right of your screen you should have the loudspeaker icon as shown below, or a variation of it. If it shows crossed out, or with a warning sign next to it, you need to change it to it's regular state, ->
