Re: No alert sound for Mail and iMessage on latest iPad Air and iPhone Air

You may want to check the alert sound is not muted, and that Do Not Disturb is not turned on

Also: The volume may be set too low so the alert sounds go unheard.

See: Adjust the volume on iPad - Apple Support

and

Adjust the volume on iPhone - Apple Support

To check notifications are set to allow alert sounds in Mail app, and Messages app:

Change notification settings on iPad - Apple Support

g: says:

You can choose the sound that plays when a notification arrives for an app.

  1. Go to Settings  > Notifications.
  2. Tap an app below Notification Style, then turn on Allow Notifications.
  3. Tap Sounds, select a sound, then tap  at the top of the screen.

____________________

Setting check if needed: Sounds are turned on in the same way that you can turn them off:

See: Change or turn off iPad sounds - Apple Support

Eg: says:

Customize your iPad sounds

Set options for alert tones and ringtones, and ringer and alert volumes.

  1. Go to Settings  on your iPad, then tap Sounds.
  2. Drag the slider to set the volume for the ringer and alerts.
  3. Tap Ringtone and other options to select sounds for the ringtone and alert tones.

You can also change the sounds iPad plays for certain people. Go to Contacts , tap a person’s name, tap Edit, then choose a ringtone and text tone.

Thank you kindly for your reply ... and for filling us in on what you tried already. Hard to guess.

With a wide range of hearing abilities in the community, it's good we have a wide range of audibility in the sounds we can choose from.

Re: "... all of the alerts seem to have started working?"

Sometimes just moving the ringer alert volume slider back and forth a few times can assist. Glad the situation seems to have changed for the better - order is sometimes restored just by re-starting a device!

Thanks all for your support I had tried I think all of your suggestions prior to my post. It’s bazar that some of the sounds on the settings menu are hardly audible at full volume on both iPhone and iPad and other sounds are very loud at the same setting. Even more odd is that some days after not being able to sort out this issue and not doing anymore changes to settings all of the alerts seem to have started working?
