esim in china on iphone 17promx

Hello Apple Support Team,

I would like to inquire about the specifications of the iPhone 17 Pro Max regarding SIM card support, specifically eSIM functionality.

I am planning to purchase the device, and it is highly important for me that it supports both a Nano-SIM and an eSIM simultaneously for Dual SIM functionality, as I regularly use both types in my home country, Palestine.

Therefore, I have two specific questions:

1. Chinese Version: Does the iPhone 17 Pro Max model sold in mainland China support eSIM functionality, or does it only support two physical Nano-SIM cards (Dual Nano-SIM)?

2. Qatar Version (Hamad International Airport): Does the iPhone 17 Pro Max available at Hamad International Airport in Qatar support the combination of a Nano-SIM and an eSIM?

Knowing the configuration (Nano-SIM + eSIM) is crucial for my needs, so please advise on which version would be best for me to purchase.

Thank you for your time and cooperation.

Sincerely,

Muhannad

The Apple warranty is not international, and you may be obligated to return to the country of purchase for service.

There is presently one Apple iPhone model with eSIM support for sale in China mainland, the iPhone Air model A3518:

Using eSIM with your iPhone in China mainland - Apple Support

iPhone 17 Pro Max support only eSIM in these countries and regions: Bahrain, Canada, Guam, Japan, Kuwait, Mexico, Oman, Puerto Rico, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, United States, and U.S. Virgin Islands.

China mainland is dual SIM with no eSIM.

iPhone 17 Pro Max models sold elsewhere, including Europe, Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, and South Korea, support both nanoSIM and eSIM.

eSIM-only support is expanding: “iPhone Air is activated with an eSIM and does not support a physical SIM. iPhone 14, iPhone 15, iPhone 16 and iPhone 17 models (model numbers A2650, A2651, A2649, A2632, A2846, A2847, A2848, A2849, A3081, A3082, A3083, A3084, A3212, A3256, A3257, A3258) offered by Apple for the U.S. and Puerto Rico are exclusively activated with an eSIM and do not support a physical SIM. iPhone 17 models (A3519, A3522, A3525) offered by Apple for Mexico are exclusively activated with an eSIM and do not support a physical SIM. Use of an eSIM requires a wireless service plan. See your carrier for details. To learn more, visit apple.com/lae/esim.”
