Random character input on iPhone SE virtual keyboard

Since yesterday, the keyboard went nuts. Should I want to type any characters on the virtual keyboard popping up in ANY applications run on my iPhone, the result is a random number a kind of character that makes it impossible to enter passwords, etc. Is that a bug or a virus. Btw, I have not used my iphone in any suspicious environment.

Any advise is highly appreciated.

Clean the display, perform a forced restart, and try again.

Also now remove any add-on screen-protective film, and any protective case, and test again.

Failing that, make an appointment with Apple Support, as your display or digitizer may have failed.

Failing displays and digitizers can manifest by missed touches and ghost touches.

This misbehavior tends to be something affecting the display or digitizer, and not malware. Malware is quite rare.
