Automation to play a voice memo

I recorded a 3 second voice memo from my little nephew.

I tired to set an automation that plays that memo at a certain hour of the day.

But it doesn't work I tried many ways to make it work but without success.

May someone help me? Thanks

Unfortunately, it is not possible to play the memo automatically when the iPhone is locked. But you can easily set a specific memo to play on a specific day and time as you wish - just not 100% automatically. You will get a notification on the lock screen, all you have to do is press "Continue" - the iPhone will require your passcode, TouchID or FaceID, then the playback will start immediately, on the lock screen.

Is it interesting? If so, I can make a guide for you.

Of course! Clever idea! I was so focused on an automation that I didn't think about just setting an alarm.

1. Take your Memo, select share and select Use As Ringtone

2. Open your alarm clock app, select Repeat, and select the days the alarm should sound.

3. Tap Sound and select your Memo

4. Set the time, and save.

There you go! I'm really disappointed that I didn't come up with it myself. But saving sounds as ringtones is an iOS 26 thing, so it's pretty new. Before, you had to go through Garageband, iTunes, or Finder.

Here is a guide:

1. First, download this Shortcut called Memo Loop. DOWNLOAD

2. Open the Shotcut app, find Memo Loop, and tap the button with the 3 dots to edit.

3. Scroll down a bit and tap "Recording" and select the Voice Memo you want to play. Then tap “Done”.

4. Select Automations in the bottom menu and select New Automation, or tap "+" in the top right corner.

5. Select Time of Day

6. Select the desired playback time and set the settings as shown by the arrows. Finally, tap "Next"

7. Select Memo Loop from the list of your shortcuts. Done!

But... I can bypass the problem by creating a shortcut that:

  1. Sets - say a minute before - a clock alarm and the ringtone will be that short vocal memo (4 seconds)
  2. The clock alarm then goes on at the specific time
  3. Deletes that clock alarm (in order to not clutter the alarms list)

Ooh I'm making things too brainy... I better set an alarm and that's it, and surely it sounds without problem at the specific time...

Very nice!

I learned a few things useful also for other automation.

I implemented it and it works.

A thing I learned is that, anyhow, a shortcut will not run automatically when the phone is locked, it only displays a notification but only when the iphone is activated. And it is also not possible to estabilish a sound of alert.

So it's nice but, if the phone is locked. The automation is there but not useful.

You were very helpful. Thanks for your suggestions.
