How to get rid of the bar above the keyboard on iOS 26

After updating my iPhone to iOS 26 I have this bar above the suggested auto correct words that has the following icons: a key, a credit card, location pin, check mark. Especially on form fields on the internet it persists and blocks part of the screen and sometimes hides the ability to click a submit button or continue button on forms. It also shows on various webpages not even in form mode. It’s very obtrusive and annoying. How do I get rid of this? See screenshot.

Yes, if the cursor is active in a text field the bar is present. Either tap on the screen outside the active text field or tap the check mark. This is how it currently operates.

iOS 26 and Liquid Glass are simply the design Apple has chosen to go with, for now. The iPhone User Interface has had several major redesigns in its near 20 year history. The last major redesign was iOS 7, back in 2014. We all somehow managed to get through them all.

You may want to review the information in the article I linked to below. It explains the adjustments you can make to mitigate the effects of Liquid Glass that you’re experiencing. However you cannot currently remove or reposition the bar you’re inquiring about.

Apple’s installed user base is over 1.5 billion users. Making a single user interface perfectly compatible for every user is literally impossible. Apple will make changes (or not make changes) based partially on the feedback they receive through their official channel, linked below and good luck.

The bar has always been there and was also in iOS 18,17, and 16. The difference in iOS 26 is that the Done button has been replaced by the Checkmark when the cursor is in an input field and the bar is separated from the keyboard by about 8 pixels. There are also additional text input options in the new bar. Here is what the bar looked like in earlier iOS versions where it appeared on top of the keyboard. In this example, the up/down arrows allowed transversing between multiple input fields and the Done button would exit the input field. You could not remove the bar in those iOS versions and you also cannot remove it in iOS 26.

@Kurtosis12, what do you think we all did? We did read and try everything and it wont go away

If you did read all the responses, you would realize that currently there is no way to turn it off and you would stop asking the same question over and over.

Do you have an actual solution?

There currently is no solution, so no, I don't have an actual solution other than to say let Apple know what you would like to see in future updates.

As others have also posted, you can give feedback to Apple and they may adjust this setting in the future.

If you tap on the checkmark, it should disappear. It looks like you are using the Google Chrome app, try looking into that app's settings to see if it can be disabled. The bar is less disruptive in Safari as it is built into the iPhone's keyboard.

I've tried playing around with it a bit. The bar disappears when you switch from Bottom to Compact in Settings > Apps > Safari, but just comes back when Safari is restarted. So this is not a solution.

Unfortunately I don't think it can be changed - if you look at iOS 18, the bar is still there, here it's just baked into the keyboard, and not floating in a bubble above the keyboard. It's simply part of the iOS 26 design. Whether you like it or not.

A setting that could make the bar merge with the keyboard, which in previous iOS versions would be welcome.

"I also hate this intrusive new "feature." I hope one day there's a way to stop it. One more nail in the coffin of my phone use. I'm glad to not be the only one who finds this extremely annoying."

Doesn't bug me.

Recommend a Change to Apple:

Do your Part: Provide Apple with feedback on this, letting them know about your opinion.  Apple may not get back to you directly, but the more feedback they receive on this, the more they will know what is occurring, and what their customers prefer.

  1. Go Here: Feedback - iPhone - Apple
  2. Select: "Feature Request" for the "Feedback Type"
  3. Comment: on how you think it should be different. Include the URL of this thread.
  4. Proceed from there as necessary
