Have gift cards in excess of $2k. Can I use additional in store?

I cashed in some credit card rewards for Apple gift cards to buy a new iPhone. Total cost of the phone including Apple care is about $2300 CAD including taxes. As the system does not allow more than $2000 balance, can I use the additional gift cards to buy the phone in person at an Apple store? (Ex. Use the additional gift card to pay the remaining balance to complete the transaction?) I ask because it seems gift cards can only be applied to the Apple wallet and with the limit in place, I cannot order a phone in the Apple online store.
