Is there a “Sort by Size” feature on iCloud (videos & pics) for the purpose of deleting the largest files to free-up iCloud space?

Re: Freeing up file space by deleting largest photos and videos on iCloud

Please remember that deleting items on iCloud also deletes them everywhere they are in sync.

Also: You may have the high-res versions on iCloud, and only low-res versions on your device(s),

If you haven't seen it already: Apple support's online article (link below) has lots of tips:

See: Manage your iCloud storage on your Apple device - Apple Support

Eg says:

"Before you delete anything, you may want to archive or make copies of the information you store in iCloud."

Not that I know of: however the above linked article says:

"Check Recommended for You

If you’re getting low on storage on your iPhone or iPad with iOS 17 or iPadOS 17 or later, go to Recommended for You in iCloud settings. From here, you can delete certain things that you may not need anymore, such as photos, large files or old backups.

    1. Open the Settings app, tap your name, then tap iCloud.
    2. Tap Recommended for You, then tap one of the options and follow the onscreen instructions to free up storage.

If you can’t see what you’re looking for under Recommended For You, you can still manually delete certain content from iCloud."

There are many more tips in the linked article above.

Hope this helps :-)

Freeing Space on iCloud:

For note...

Alternatively to Exporting All of your Photos:

Download All of iCloud Drive:

One thought would be to download all of iCloud to an external drive. Once downloaded, verify your can access the data. Once verified, trash what is in iCloud. As for seeing through the download, do so in Finder on a Mac. You would download it to an external drive, and then open the drive in Finder. Search through it using the search bar on the top-right corner of the Finder window. Once downloaded, trash what is in there. Use my user tip: Getting a Quick and Direct "iCloud Drive-to-External Hard Drive" Download - User Tip

Thank you kindly for your thoughtful reply, and for taking the time to look through the info. supplied. We don't know which computer or device model you are using, and which OS version is installed.

Re: " ... determine the size of an individual photo ... "

On any Apple computer, you can generally use "Get info." to see the file size and details of any file of any kind. Eg: On My laptop: with the cursor (arrow- pointer) on a file, I use a two-finger click on the track-pad to open a small window, and choose "Get Info".

Another small window opens with the file details, & file-size.

We can use the (i) ( i in a circle) for info button to view file-size of a photo in the Photos app.

A long overdue THANK YOU, brbo!

As I suspected, it seems that Apple purposely does not give one the option to determine the size of a picture so that deleting it would be an alternative to paying for more storage. I don't even see an option to determine the size of an individual photo if one wanted to clean out unnecessary photos.

But I sincerely appreciate your detailed explanation of alternatives. I've tried all of them but, sadly, I either don't know what I'm doing (probable) and it's just too much work and time to make sense of it all.

Apple should reconsider a very simple addition to their otherwise great offerings.

Thank you again.

I owe you a debt of gratitude, brbo! Thank you so very much for hanging in there with me as I navigate features heretofore unknown to me. I am embarrassed to admit it but I didn't know about the nifty "Get Info" feature and what it actually meant. But with your detailed explanation and helpful snapshots I now know the size of each photo. I can now begin deleting unnecessary photos and hopefully free up enough space in iCloud. BTW, I have a Mac (2 years old or so) running on Sonoma. Many thanks for your expertise and patience!
