Cursor Jumps backward in Mac and IOS notes app tables.

On both Mac and IOS 26.1 I have noticed an issue where when using the Notes App, specifically in a Table, the cursor jumps randomly while typing. If I try to type "Hello" in the table, I will often get results like "elloH" instead. It is terribly frustrating, and I have learned this has been an issue in older releases going back years as well.

It is not related to my keyboard or trackpad, and turning off spellcheck, predictive text, etc, does not help. It is software, only when using a table in the Notes app. Unfortunately my work has me using lots of tables in the Notes app.

I have come across about a dozen reports of this exact behavior on this community site, which all have expired without help from Apple. So here's a new one. If you are a user with this issue, hit that "me too" button below. Or give a comment to keep it fresh. Maybe if we get 500 people to comment Apple will pay attention.

I chatted with Apple support today. First suggestion was a hard restart. I thought I had done that, but found that restart is the same as power off: quick volume up, quick volume down, hold button on right side till you see what you want. When I did the restart correctly, my jumpy cursor in Notes was gone!

You’d think Apple would know by now how to do threads in discussions, because then you’d see all my comments in a logical progression and realize the “hard restart” didn’t solve the problem after all. Regardless, this is the sequence to power off and power on: quick volume up, quick volume down, hold button on right side till you see what you want (slide to power off or the black screen with the white apple).
