How to speed up iCloud Drive sync after migrating from Dropbox?

Migrated cloud services from DropBox to iCloud this weekend, hoping it would be as simple as copy+paste. iCloud is extremely slow to sync files (I check all the boxes: space, bandwith), I don't seem to fina any good news online. Seriously thinking in going back, even DropBox being more expensive.

MacOS always keep iCloud file in my device without upload and free disk space? I use iCloud to sync my personal file with other device currently. some routine script remove offline file and push all into the cloud for maintain more free disk space. There are a feature like "always keep this file in this device?" like other services such as Dropbox for Mac?

Add External Drive Content to iCloud Storage I have a large inventory of Lightroom-connected original digital negative files that I access with an external hard drive, and I'd like to backup the content of that drive to iCloud in the same way that iCloud keeps current backups of activities in my Documents, Desktop, Calendar, and Contacts files, but can't figure out how to do so. Has anyone accomplished something similar who can give me the solution to do so they used? Thanks.
