Why does automatic update no longer update? It doesn’t ever update even with strong WiFi, full charge, and set to automatic updates. I have a 14+ that’s been pretty much a lemon since I got it.

Your tagline says you're on iOS 18, and since iOS 18.7 and iOS 26 were released rather recently and at the same time, your iPhone won't auto update. Auto update typically don't happen if there's multiple iOS versions available and since initially your iPhone won't auto upgrade to a major new software number.
If this were a one time thing, that makes sense. But I’ve had to manually update this thing for over a year
