iPhone 7 Update to iOS 15.8.5 "deleted" Apps (Notes, Reminders, Calendar...)
After doing the last available update on my iPhone 7 to iOS 15.8.5 (the phone battery was charged and the phone plugged in during the process) several iOS native apps were "deleted": The icons are not displayed normally anymore, just the white symbol with sketch lines and only the data seems to be on the phone (according to the data/memory space overview in Settings). I cannot open or delete those "deleted" apps, nor re-install them via the App Store. I do not have iCloud backups for these apps either.
The following apps were "deleted" and are not functioning any more in the way described above:
- Reminders
- Notes
- Measure
- Shortcuts
The
- Calendar
app appears normally on the screen but cannot be opened anymore (it shuts down immediately) or accessed in any other form (by adding an appointment via another app for instance).
Within in the
- Files
app all files that were saved in the folder "On this phone" were deleted, including the folder itself. There is also no such a folder anymore to save files locally on my iPhone 7.
All Photos on my phone were also temporarily "deleted" but automatically "restored" throughout the day from I do not know where since I do not use iCloud for storing them. I only use iCloud for files, always maxing out the space there, hence I do not have backups from other apps there.
Also, all my messenger apps (WhatsApp, Signal, Telegram) were "fried" (all chats and files were deleted and I needed to login/register anew).
My question (since my last full iPhone backup was done several months ago): How can I possibly save or retrieve the data that seems to be present for those apps on my iPhone 7 (especially from Calendar, Notes and Reminders)?
I normally ALWAYS create a full backup before updating my iPhone for safety reasons but for this "harmless" security update I felt "safe", because "What could possibly happen...?" Well.
Thank you for your help!!
PS.: I found out that the iOS 15.8.5 update behaved in similar and worse ways for other iPhone 7 users after researching. Why the update is not pulled back or flagged in any form is beyond me. My trust in Apple took quite a hit from this "mishap" that should not occur. At all.
