Restoring Locked Phone (Phone Unavailable) - disk is full

I got locked out of my iphone - maxed out all attempts and is now showing "Phone Unavailable". I tried the recovery options in Apple Support website, have connected to Apple Devices app and completed the update download.

I am now trying to restore it but I am getting an error message "The iPhone could not be restored. The disk you are attempting to use is full. Removing files and emptying the Recycle Bin will free up additional space."

How can I do these - remove files and empty recycle bin - when I can't even get in the phone system, which is the primary reason for trying to recover and restore it. Please help on next step!

There's not much you can do when you can't access the phone. You have to restore your iPhone using a computer. Either a PC with iTunes, or on a Mac using Finder. That's the only option I see.

You can find useful information about that process here:

Don't forget that Apple has replaced iTunes with Apple Devices on more modern Windows computers.

I didn't realize that! Thanks. I'm not on the Windows platform myself, so I was just digging up old knowledge.

I'm not on Windows anymore myself, but learned I need to advise folks to switch to Apple Devices. Apple actually officially replaced iTunes for Windows with three separate applications: Apple Music, Apple TV, and Apple Devices. The Apple Devices app is specifically designed to handle the device management functions previously managed by iTunes, such as backing up, restoring, updating, and syncing content between Windows PCs and Apple devices like iPhones, iPads, and iPods.

Smart. I've always thought it was silly to use iTunes for that kind of thing, so it's nice to have a dedicated program for this. I'll make a note of this so that in the future I can point people towards Apple Devices, and not iTunes.
