How to prevent app downloads when App Store is restricted in iOS 26.1?

Why is Apple content to allow users to download apps even when the AppStore is blocked through Restrictions? Please fix this bug.

If you are talking about a child redownloading apps, there is no setting preventing a child from re-downloading an already purchased app.


A more extreme solution completely bypassing Ask To Buy is proposed by klaritykhaos in this post:

“As a workaround you can go to Settings> parental controls > itunes and app store purchases> turn off Installing apps. That way you will have full control of which apps are installed. This does work for redownloads.”


If you wish to make a recommendation to Apple about adding a feature to prevent redownloading of a previously approved app, go to —> Product Feedback - Apple

You are correct it is a bug in iOS 26.1 where you can use the Search option instead of the App Store to redownload an app and the App Store is not needed. That is why I suggested to use the Feedback link where one of the options is a Bug Report to send to Apple.


With iOS 26.2 still in beta, we are unable to comment on the issues that have been resolved.
