How to resolve poor cell phone reception on iPhone 16 with a single antenna design?

My iphone 16 Pro has been the worst problem since I've had it a little over a year. The reception is terrible, I get an echo, dropped calls, people can't hear me midway through a conversation, my phone doesn't ring when I am holding it, or I cannot hear the conversation. My carrier VZ has replaced the phone 3x, we've reset the network, updated the software, etc. with no improvements. The only fix so far is to make calls on "airplane mode" but that doesn't work on incoming calls. We live near an airport with 5G transmission and have been told that the airport traffic has precedence. While my internet provider, router company, and apple all point the finger to our VZ carrier, I have also heard that the design of the iphone 16 reduced the antennas from 2 to 1. which may be a contributing factor in areas with weaker transmission such as ours due to airport interference. We never had this problem before but with 5G and the iphone 16 the issue is intolerable. A recent article in iphonenews describes my same exact cellular issue with the iphone 16.

Q. Is it accurate that the antenna design changed from 2 to 1 antenna in the iphone 16 series?

Q. Is the antenna design the same in the iphone 17?

Other than calling on airplane mode, no other fix worked. I prefer not to change carrier and I'm desperately searching for recommendations or solutions.

Original Title: Terrible cell phone reception on iphone 16. Is it a carrier issue or an iphone antenna issue (replaced 3x and still unworkable)?

Is it accurate that iPhone 16 reduced from 2 to 1 antenna for cellular? — No credible evidence supports that claim.

Is antenna design changed in iPhone 17? — I found no credible documentation or teardown confirmation indicating a change.

Other than toggling airplane mode, what can you do? — Use LTE-only or Wi-Fi calling, test network settings, consider signal-boosting hardware; talk to your carrier about weak-signal home solutions.

This seems like your carrier issue, Contact your Carrier (Cellular Service Provider) The agency who issued the SIM to you.

Call Failed or Dropped Calls / Disconnecting

In telecommunications, a dropped-call / Auto Disconnecting Calls / Call-Failed Muted conversation are mainly due to technical reasons / fault at the carrier's end. At times the calls are cut off before the speaking parties had finished their conversation and before one of them had hung up (dropped calls or Call Failed or Auto Disconnection or muted calls).

Few Reasons Your device Keeps Muting / Dropping / Disconnecting Calls or encounter Call Failed.

  • Your Signal Is Weak.
  • It's Raining (Cats & Dog)
  • The Cell Tower Is Overloaded / Heavy Traffic (Telecommunication)
  • You've Misunderstood Your Signal Strength
  • You are moving and the signal weakens while changing from one tower to another

Thank you for comments.

Did all the suggestions and the only method that helps is calling in airplane mode.T ried LTE-only, Wi-fi calling, tested network settings, restart phone, have boosting hardware. Carrier just replace 3 (same model reconditioned) phones and they all performed poorly.

We have been told the cell tower is overloaded because we are close to an airport. Strange that we never had problem before but with the introduction of 5G things changed, even using LTE.

I also have been told the sim card in the iphone 16 is digital.
