I have just updated my MacBook Pro 2020 to Tahoe 26.1 and some of the folders have lost their icon on the desktop. Does anyone know what has happened? Thanks

Hi, I am the poster who suggested turning off Dropbox in the Systems Software > Log in Items and Extensions>App Background Activity > Dropbox. My problem only began when I updated from Sequoia to Tahoe 26.3. The deselecting Dropbox as above solved the issue and has not resulted in a failure to synch immediately between my devices; ie a change is a file on my 2021 14inch M1 MBk Pro is immediately reflected on my iPad and iPhone. It may be worth trying to see if it works for you, since you can immediately reselect DB if it either it a. Makes no difference re Folders showing or b. Results in DB not syncing anymore. All the best and hope it works for you until Mac/Dropbox sort this annoying problem out.
I've subsequently discovered that if you control click on the folder in the doc you get the option to display as a folder or a stack. If you select display as a folder then you get the correct icon i.e. the icon on the top folder. If you select display as a stack you get the icon of the first sub file.
I have been having the same issue. It seems to be a bug with the new update, and some app icons have not adopted and have very low-quality displays
My experience has been when you create a top folder with a number of other folders in it, with all folders customised with their own icons, the icons are correctly displayed in Finder, correct displayed with an alias on the Desk Top. However moving the top folder to the Doc, the Doc displays the icon on the first folder contained within the top folder.
mine are missing on my google drive.. its seems it takes some time for them load the icon and some still doesn't have it anymore. it's annoying..
reeboting didn't fix it.. how can I fix this problem?
Me too. And entirely random which DB folders are affected.
No, problem only fixed temporarily. Icons still disappearing randomly. A truly irritating bug that needs fixing!
Ok, but wont this make dropbox or google drive to stop working (updating in the background)? If it does make the app's to stop updating we solve a problem creating a bigger one
I thought that too but it hasn’t stopped changes in files being synced immediately, via Dropbox, to my other devices. The problem began when i updated fron Sequoia to Tahoe 26.3.

For me the problem started with 26.4 and it is not random: all custom icons are missing on alle my disks. That really slows down my Finder navigation.
Yeah, haven't had the folder icons glitch in a while. Seems like it's resolved on my system!
I have the same issue, and it does seem to be only associated with folders that I have connected to Dropbox. When I get info on those folders, the icon in the upper left is also blank.
