How to prevent accidental swipes on YouTube podcast timeline in iPhone Lock Screen and Control Center?

Accidental Swipes on Lock Screen / Control Center Skipping YouTube Podcast Position

Hi everyone,

I’m having an annoying issue with my iPhone. When I’m listening to long YouTube podcasts with the screen locked, the media controls on the lock screen make it very easy to accidentally swipe on the timeline and skip to a different part of the video. The same thing happens with the controls in the Control Center (the one you open by swiping down on an unlocked phone).

Since many of these podcasts are several hours long, one accidental swipe completely messes up my position. Then I have to waste time searching for the exact spot again (usually while I’m working and just want the audio to keep playing without interruptions).

Is there any way to disable the timeline or prevent these accidental swipes on the lock screen or in Control Center for YouTube? I’ve had this problem since switching to iPhone and haven’t found any solution.

Thanks in advance!

The main reason accidental swipes happen is that your phone screen wakes up in your pocket or hand when you touch it slightly. Disabling the "easy wake" features will ensure the screen stays black (and the scrubber inactive) until you actually press the power button.

  • Disable Tap to Wake:
    • Go to Settings > Accessibility > Touch.
    • Turn OFF "Tap to Wake."
  • Disable Raise to Wake:
  • Go to Settings > Display & Brightness.

    • Turn OFF "Raise to Wake."

Why this works: Now, brushing the screen or grabbing the phone won't light up the Lock Screen. You must deliberately press the Side Button to see the controls, making accidental scrubbing impossible.
