Help, iPad's "other" space taking so much space!!!!!

I am writing this message because
I got my 16Gb wifi ipad about a month ago and I'm using it with great content.
However, for some reason the space in my iPad is decreasing and decreasing,
because the orange, "Other" space is increasing and increasing.

I remeber earlier on it was at zero but I dont understand why it keeps getting bigger....
Its taking up 4.54 Gbs right now... way more than any of the other categories.... and I cant think of anything that would be in the "other category"

Can anyone help me understand the situation??
Is it normal???
Is there anything I can do to get rid of the huge amount of "other"s?
I'm running out of space 😟 a problem which I wouldnt have if that other category didnt take up so much!!!!!!

Thank you for Reading...

I have run into this same problem a couple times now, it is usually caused when there is not enough room to sync movies. I ended up with a couple of generic movie icons in my videos list, connected to unusable files, and a huge "other" space allotment. The last time I fixed it, I did a complete restore. This time, I tried your suggestion about resetting the network settings, and it worked!

Thanks!

AN EASY FIX for me...I have to turn off all the automatic wifi/cell sync/downloads for apps, music, books, etc. due to my available network. So I still sync with itunes via the cable.

When I fill my ipad up with movies and then delete them from ipad, that space turns from "video" to "other" when I plug it into my itunes to sync. No matter what I delete from itunes library after that, it still will not sync and delete from ipad.

My work around this issue is just reboot the ipad then plug in and syc with itunes and its back to normal.

If I was to leave those movies on the ipad and then delete them from while syned to itunes there would be no problem, and probably would save a little time, but I just got in a habit of deleting them when im done watching.

Yes, I had a similar resolution, I had over 16GB in the "Other" category and then I realised that many of my songs were not playable in the library. What must have happened is that I interrupted my "sync over WiFi" and the songs were not stored (or registered) properly and when I deselected "Sync Music" and applied that and then reselected "Sync Music" and applied the change the "Other" dissappeared and the music files were alllocated to Music.

So, I figure the "Other" category is unsynced data in temporary storage.

Thanks to everyone's suggestions. Before I found this forum, I completely restored (to factory settings) my Ipad 2 b/c of the "other" being filled up too quickly. After reading this forum I'm glad I wasn't alone in this. Just to make sure the other was small as possible I took sharky49's suggestion and reset network settings. Now my question is, do we have to do this every once in awhile to avoid the other from going .59gb to 8gb? Finally can I restore my Ipad2/Iphone4 without losing all my info (like game levels, passwords). I read a few ppl did a restore without totally going to a factory restore and they still were able to shrink the "Other" down. Thanks again.

My wife's been watching 3 seasons of a TV show, so lots of video on and off. Soon, her 16GB iPod2 was filled. I took the suggestion of power cycling it (while it was connected to iTunes on my MacBook Pro) and that worked. Very simple.

I knew the video was the only thing big enough to take up all that space. Obviously something very wrong with the IOS to give that problem, but it seemed to be solved easily enough.

It's become a real nuisance to watch movies on the iPad because every time I am done watching them on the iPAD, I delete them in iTunes and sync the iPAD the latter gets stuck with the same size of the movie showing up in the "other" capacity. And it quickly builds up. Reset Network Settings does fix the problem (but I have to input again all the WLAN passwords), but it's a real shame that such an outlandish bug hasn't been taken care of yet. Not happy.
