MacBook Pro not recognizing Sony HDR-FX7 for streaming

I am trying to use my Sony HDR-FX7 to stream to YouTube through my MacBook Pro Sequoia 15.7.2 (24G325). I have it attached to the computer using a 4k UHD HDMI cable, but the computer doesn't even try to recognize the device. What cable and/or additional equipment do I need to accomplish using this camera. I also have a Sony HDR-FX1.

your Mac won’t “see” a camcorder plugged directly into HDMI — you need a video capture device (or a FireWire bridge for DV) and the camera must be set to output a clean/preview signal. For a reliable YouTube stream from a Sony HDR-FX7 / HDR-FX1 you’ll want either an HDMI capture dongle (best) or a FireWire → Thunderbolt path (legacy DV), or a small HDMI switcher that behaves like a webcam (ATEM Mini). Below I give the practical options, what to buy, and exact steps so it actually works.
