iCloud email blocked when sharing Google Calendar

I am trying to share a private Google calendar and the notifications are being blocked. I am using my iCloud email address which is registered with Google. I use it to log into my Google calendar. But when the invites go out Microsoft and Gmail email addresses bounce back stating that messages sent from 57.103.84.154 (an Apple IP) weren't sent. "Please contact your Internet service provider since part of their network is on our block list (S3150).

You can also refer your provider to http://mail.live.com/mail/troubleshooting.aspx#errors."

This is not the first time my iCloud email has been blocked and suspected as spam. I have no evidence that it has been used for spam or been spoofed. Apples is being over zealous and it causes more problems than it fixes!

Since I don't own the domain, I cannot modify the DNS records and "Apple Invites" is a useless web page. These are Google's other suggestions for fixing the problem.

Change the sending address for Google Calendar invites

This solves the problem immediately.

Go to:

Google Calendar → Settings → Your Email Address (under your name)

Change the default From: email to:

  • Gmail address
  • or
  • another non-iCloud address you own

Now Google sends invites through its own SMTP, bypassing Apple entirely.

This is the best immediate workaround.

If this is what you are referring to, you missed several steps, there is no email address under my name.

To find your Calendar ID & Sharing Settings:

Open Google Calendar on a computer.

Click the Settings menu (gear icon) at the top right, then select Settings.

On the left, select your primary calendar (under "Settings for my calendars").

Look for "Share with specific people" to add or remove users, or find the "Calendar address" (your unique ID) to share your whole calendar.

To check your Gmail "Send mail as" Name:

In Gmail, click the Settings gear, then "See all settings".

Go to the "Accounts and Import" tab.

Under "Send mail as," click "edit info" next to your email to update your displayed name for outgoing messages.

Click on the link "Specify a different "reply-to" address. Do no select "Add another email address" then enter the iCloud account as this will force the SMTP server to use iCloud.

I cannot do this since my non-Gmail address is associated with my Gmail account.

When I click on the Gmail icon to launch the app, I only get "Add Gmail to your Google Account". I cannot choose my Gmail address since it is already in use and it shows "Your current email address" as my iCloud email.

I can only make these changes when I log in with my actual Gmail account (which wasn't easy since I changed to my second, now iCloud email as my Google account).

There is no 'change default from' option. It now shows "Send mail as" and is using a Gmail account only after I logged in with my Gmail address and not my iCloud address.

The problem lies with iCloud blocking Google calendar notifications to Gmail and Microsoft email addresses!
