Safari private browsing not working on iPad

IPAD 8, iOS Sequoia v18.7.2 - Privacy setting

Recurring problem with privacy in safari. All my tab groups lose their private setting at the same time, and I can’t add a new private tab or group. Major problem, as I need to use it for online bill paying.

Not a problem in the slightest; you don’t need private browsing to pay bills; all communication between any web browser and a secure website is encrypted end-to-end. Private browsing does nothing to make this more secure. What it does is remove all cookies when you exit private browsing mode or exit a website.
