How to scan with Canon 8400F scanner using OS Ventura
Is there a way to get my Canon 8400F scanner to work with OS Ventura?

Use VueScan (works perfectly, easiest method)
VueScan (from Hamrick Software) includes its own 8400F driver, so it bypasses Canon’s discontinued driver entirely.

With both scanners connected to your iMac, and with the current VueScan version, launch it. From the VueScan Scanners menu, select Find Scanners (F12). This may take a moment or two as it pokes your scanners.
Then, from the open VueScan panel, the Source selector will provide the ability to select the scanner you want to use as in my case below, where the LiDE 400 is an AirPrint configured USB scanner:

Just to reinforce what VikingOSX already replied,
Yes, Vuescan can recognize multiple scanners and it allows you to select the one you want to use. I have 3 scanners connected to my Mac. In Vuescan I can select the one I want to use at any particular moment and they all work perfectly fine with Vuescan

It should. If you have trouble getting VueScan to scan the slides to separate files try Image Capture. It works beautifully. You probably can place multiple slides on the flatbed (without the Canon holder for slides) and get many slides at a time.
Many thanks,
I already have VueScan on my 27 inch iMac, OS Ventura. It works very well with my regular Canon printer/scanner. I also have an 8400F scanner that I haven't used for about 5 years, but need to use it again to scan old colour slides, strip negatives and prints, because it does a very good job. With the Canon printer/scanner already plugged into one of the iMac's USB ports, can I simply plug the 8400F into another USB port? Would the VueScan program then recognise two scanners? Does it have the ability for me to select the one that I wish to use? Your advice would be most valuable.
In anticipation, many thanks,
peterpatter.

Read the Vuescan manual.
Look up a few Vuescan tutorials on YouTube. Here are a couple of suggestions to start with:
Scanning color negatives with Vuescan
Color slide scanning with Vuescan
But the 8400F is a flatbed scanner mainly intended for scanning documents or flat art. While it "can" scan negatives or slides it's not a good solution for scanning film. I'd add that the 8400F is a very old scanner (almost 20 years old) and the FL lamp is probably off color with lower and possibly uneven brightness by now.
For scanning strips of colour film, or colour slides, what settings should I use on VueScan?
