iPhone read receipts are off but still showing. New iPhone 16, Ipad air , MacBook Air. off on all three. HELP ????

In addition to the option within Settings to turn off the Read Receipts option, also check the properties for that individual that indicates it is showing the “Read” indicator. A screenshot for an individual contact is shown below.
If you are seeing “Read” on a message you sent, that would indicate that the recipient has enabled that option.

I'm not seeing "read". My friend told me they are seeing "read" on my incoming texts to her. ???? Thank you for answering so promptly.
My friend is experiencing this same issue and I can’t find any information on how to fix it
