I’m wearing an Apple watch. That one is making sound. I do not understand why wearing an apple watch should make the phone silent? It has not been like this before and I have been using the watch for years……

It has always been the case that, if you have an Apple Watch, it sounds the notifications when the phone is locked.

If you turn off Wrist Detection, the watch will lock and notifications will go back to the phone. But you will not have access to features like Apple Pay on your Watch.

By design, when you are wearing an Watch alerts sound only on the watch unless the iPhone is in use; this is so you don’t get two alerts for the same thing. I believe this feature is to short-circuit the users who would post, “Why do I get alerts on both my watch and my iPhone? APPLE, WHAT WERE YOU THINKING?"
