Samsung TV Apple TV app sign-in fails: 'Something went wrong

Hi. I have been unable to play my Apple TV app on my Samsung 43" UHD for about a week. It works on all other devices. I have done half a day of troubleshooting and still no success. If anyone has any experience of this problem, I'd like to hear about it!


Here's my troubleshooting log.


TV Model: Samsung UE43DU7100KXXU

Firmware: T-KSU2EDDEUC-1301.0

Issue: Apple TV app loads to Home screen, but pressing Sign In always returns “Something went wrong”.

Occurs on multiple networks.


Network-Level Troubleshooting


  • Tested on home Wi-Fi (strong signal, ~150 Mbps).
  • Tested with DNS changed to Google (8.8.8.8) and Cloudflare (1.1.1.1).
  • Tested on iPhone personal hotspot — identical failure.
  • Restarted router and confirmed no filtering or parental controls active.
  • Confirmed other apps (Netflix etc.) work normally.


Apple ID / Account Troubleshooting


  • Removed TV and other devices from Apple ID device list.
  • Waited for Stolen Device Protection security delay to expire.
  • Confirmed Apple ID devices list loads normally.
  • Tested Apple TV login on other Apple devices — all working.
  • Apple ID sign-in works on every device except the Samsung TV.


Samsung TV App / Smart Hub Troubleshooting


  • Deleted and reinstalled Apple TV app multiple times.
  • Performed several hard reboots (holding Power for 5–10 seconds).
  • Power-cycled TV at wall (unplugged for 60 seconds).
  • Performed Smart Hub Reset.
  • Attempted to access Smart Hub region reset (not available on this firmware).
  • Disabled autorun settings via Start Screen Options.
  • Tried all Apple TV app sign-in methods (QR code never appears).


TV-Level Troubleshooting


  • Performed a full Factory Reset of the TV.
  • Completed fresh setup (Wi-Fi + Samsung account).
  • Installed Apple TV app before any others.
  • Re-tested on both Wi-Fi and iPhone hotspot after factory reset — identical failure.
  • Confirmed No firmware updates available — TV stuck on 1301.0.


Observed Behaviour


  • Apple TV app launches with long spinner (~1 minute).
  • Home screen loads normally (content thumbnails appear).
  • Pressing Sign In immediately returns: “Something went wrong.”
  • No QR code or password prompt ever appears.
  • Behaviour unchanged across all networks and after full reset.


Conclusion Based on Troubleshooting


  • Issue is not network-related (fails on multiple networks).
  • Issue is not Apple ID-related (other devices sign in; device list normal).
  • Issue is not app-cache or Smart Hub related (factory reset + reinstalls did not resolve it).
