HomeKit Security Camera Scrubbing to a Date and Time Window

Hey All, I have been having this issue all year and I'm not finding anything online.

I have 2 Logitech Circle Camera in HomeKit. Scrubbing Footage is a pain. (I could use more colorful language but lets not, its that bad). I have busy street and I've had to give footage to the police while searching for an incident that happened at a certain date and time. This has happened a couple times. I scrub to that date, but the caching of the footage takes forever to load. And errors out all the time.

Internet speed isn't the issue, DNS isn't the issue, Networking is all Wifi on the same network.

As I'm scrubbing to the right time, it refreshes and punts me back 10-14 days to the oldest recorded video. Then I navigate again. It takes me forever to find the footage I need.

Is there a better way in HomeKit, to input a Day and time frame and just pull down all footage within that window? I know I'm asking for a feature that is likely in the enterprise space, but it seems like it could be an easy thing to build in HomeKit.

Best workarounds:

  • Use an iPad or Mac for better scrubbing
  • Use event-list view instead of timeline
  • Extract clips from events, not by scrubbing
  • Add a parallel NVR (Scrypted / Synology / Blue Iris) if you need reliable timestamp search
  • Use Home Assistant for improved timeline navigation
