Look at the full address of the site. If it starts with https:// it is secure. Safari will also alert you if a site is not secure and make you jump through hoops warning you before you actually load it.
On the other hand just because a site is secure that doesn't mean it’s safe. Modern browsers check with a database of unsafe sites before loading. That database is maintained by big tech companies like Apple, Google, Microsoft, etc.

Thank you so much. I think I'm just losing it when in a panic. My inserted address only shows name but the full address shows when I click on the that name. Not remembering this type action worries me a little; I'll make a note for future referral. Thnx.
