Need help to reset security questions or delete an Apple Account without knowledge of account info

Hi, I made an Apple ID over 10 years ago. However, I didn't actually end up using the account and completely forgot about it until recently when it got hacked by a person overseas. I received the email notification and was prompted to change the password. So, I changed the password, but in order to actually login, it's asking me to enter my security questions. However, I don't remember the answers to the questions because I made the account so long ago, and I don't think I put accurate answers. So, I tried to reset the security questions, but it forces me to answer one of my security questions to reset the security questions. Obviously this is an issue because I don't know the answer to any of the questions. I already called Apple support, and they told me they weren't able to do anything on their side.

Does anyone know of some kind of workaround to either reset the questions without needing to know the answers? Or, if there is any way I can delete the account without needing to login (or have an engineer at Apple do it for me)? I don't like the fact that there will always be an Apple ID tied to my identity just waiting for someone to hack it again. Thank you.

Several years ago Apple transitioned to using two factor authentication instead of security questions. You can continue to use security questions if you already use them and they are working for you, but if you have problems then they no longer get direct support. You can try the directions in this support article If you forgot the answers to your Apple ID security questions - Apple Support but the article is labeled "archived" and may contain information that no longer applies. If the instructions work then fine; if they do not (e.g., you see “not enough information”*) then you will have no option but to change to the newer security method, if you can. Over the past few years Apple has been persistently encouraging users to switch to the newer two factor authentication security system. For those who have disregarded their encouraging, Apple will likely only help you to now change to two factor authentication, if even that is possible. Follow the instructions in the "Turn on two-factor authentication for your Apple ID" section in this support article --> Two-factor authentication for Apple Account - Apple Support to try to change to two factor authentication.

If you still need help, contact Apple Account support at this link ➞ https://getsupport.apple.com/?caller=cups&PGF=PGF63005

Select "Other Apple Account Topics", then "Security concerns or account compromised." This will give you a chat or telephone call option.

Unless you have access to the account you cannot delete it. If you do not have sufficient identity proof, Apple won't give you access to the account. If you have payment cards associated with the account, cancel those and get new ones.

Since you do not enter positive identification when you create an Apple Account, the only thing to prove it is yours is the Security Questions/Passwords. Not providing correct answers to Security Questions you have chosen when registering, does seem to be the problem. Since you have opened that account 10 years ago, it has been recommended to convert those older account to Two Factor Authentication where account access is possible with a Trusted Device or Trusted Phone Number.

I have seen no case where Apple will delete or grant access to any account without the user being able to access it or be able to use the standard Account Recovery process to verify their information. That is for every users protection.
