iPhone Wi-Fi 6E (Wi-Fi 6GHz) not working in Trinidad & Tobago despite regulatory approval

Wi-Fi 6E (6 GHz) Not Working on iPhone in Trinidad & Tobago Even Though It’s Now Approved by Regulator

Hi everyone,

I’m hoping someone from the community (or Apple) can help clarify next steps regarding Wi-Fi 6E (6GHz) support on iPhones in Trinidad & Tobago.

Our national regulatory authority, TATT (Telecommunications Authority of Trinidad & Tobago), has officially approved the use of the lower 6 GHz band (5925–6425 MHz) for Wi-Fi 6E devices since April 2024.

However, even with this approval in place, iPhones still cannot connect to 6 GHz Wi-Fi networks here. The 6E band simply does not appear on iOS, while other devices (Samsung, laptops, etc.) are connecting without issues.

Here is the official announcement from TATT confirming 6E authorization:

And the regulatory text states:

“The Telecommunications Authority of Trinidad and Tobago (the Authority) advises the public that its schedule of class-licensed devices has been updated to include the permitted operation of Wi-Fi 6Е devices in the lower 6 GHz band (5925 - 6425 MHz).”

Full schedule here:

https://tatt.org.tt/licensing/class-license/

Wi-Fi Alliance also lists 6GHz bands as being approved in Trinidad & Tobago:

https://www.wi-fi.org/regulations-enabling-6-ghz-wi-fi

Since Apple enables Wi-Fi 6E only in countries that support it, I’m trying to understand:

1. What is the process for getting Trinidad & Tobago added to Apple’s list of supported Wi-Fi 6E regions?

2. Is there a way for users in newly approved countries to request a regulatory-domain update in iOS?

If anyone else in Trinidad & Tobago (or other newly approved regions) is experiencing the same issue, please share — the more users who confirm it, the more visibility it may get.

I have shared my feedback through Apple Feedback and Apple Developer channels to no response. I also created a Case ID with Apple Support, and was told that since this is not a device malfunction, but a regulatory change, they could not help.

Thanks in advance to the community for any guidance!

Unfortunately Apple restricts use of 6GHz WiFi bands based on the current location of the device.

I’ve been able to test this as follows: If I turn location access for networking off, I’m able to connect to 6GHz bands.

It doesn’t have anything to do with the iPhone, which was bought in the US in any case.
