6 GHz Wi-Fi (6E/7) on MacBooks for India?

India has approved 6 GHz WiFi — When will Apple enable WiFi 6E/7 on MacBooks for India?Hi Apple Community,

Great news: On January 21, 2026, India's Department of Telecommunications officially de-licensed the lower 6 GHz band (5925-6425 MHz) for indoor WiFi use. This means WiFi 6E and WiFi 7 can now legally operate in India!

Source: ET Telecom - India licenses 6GHz band for next-gen Wi-Fi technology

My MacBook still shows no 6 GHz support:

Supported PHY Modes: 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac/ax
Supported Channels: 1-13 (2GHz), 36-165 (5GHz)
No 6 GHz channels listed

My questions for Apple:

When will Apple release a macOS update to enable 6 GHz for India region now that it's legally approved?

Apple Release of WiFi 6GHz:

No one on these forums would know. Speculation is not permitted.

Use Compatible Hardware and Software:

As for being able to get it to connect to such a network, you may need an external adapter. You’ll need to use a band that is equivalent to that of your router. As provided by NETGEAR:

  1. Go Here: How do I install the NETGEAR WiFi USB adapter software on Apple macOS? - NETGEAR

My router is already throwing 6 GHz signals. I have a TPLink BE 550 Wifi 7 model, the macbook is blocking the 6 GHz wifi signals. Now, they need to enable it, hence the feature request.

I’d Go with NETGEAR and the Same Series:

Use the correct series, with the correct numbers. TP-Link devices is something I’m a bit iffy of using, based on current events heard and read about on the media. So, I’d say go with the NETGEAR, as I mentioned. It’s what I use —and it works like a charm.

Leave Feedback for Apple:

Do Your Part: Inform Apple of this. They will not get back to directly, but the more feedback they receive on this, the more they will know what is going on, and what their customers need are. The more feedback that Apple's developers receive on this, the more likely they will include it in future MacBook models.

  1. Go Here: Feedback - MacBook - Apple
  2. Select: "Feature Request" for the "Feedback Type"
  3. Proceed from there as necessary.
