Hearing aid connection issues switching iPhone/iPad

My father has hearing aids that he has paired to his iPhone via Settings/Accessibility/Hearing Devices. With that he can have phone conversations and hear videos.  He has recently purchased an iPad, and he’d like to pair his hearing aids to watch video on the larger screen.

Unfortunately the current (arduous) process to do it would be:

  1. Moving to Settings/Accessibility/Hearing Devices on the iPhone
  2. Asking the Settings/Accessibility/Hearing Devices to “forget this devise”
  3. Moving to Settings/Accessibility/Hearing Devices on the iPad (which starts a “searching” process)
  4. Taking the hearing aids out of his ears
  5. Taking the batteries out both hearing aids
  6. Putting the batteries back in both hearing aid (which allows it to be discovered by the iPad)
  7. Once paired, he puts the hearing aids back in his ears
  8. Opening the hearing aids app (Resound) to make quality adjustments.

After watching his movie on the iPad, he’d have to run through all 8 steps again.

I should tell you now that my father is 93-years-old, in great health - both mind and body.  But he’s at that point where if things get too complicated, he’ll just say “never mind”.

So I’m asking the Apple Community if there is a known “easier path”?

And if not, I’m asking Apple Developers to rethink their Accessibility process to include a desired goal of buying and USING more than one Apple product.

The solution if you wanted to use a Not-Smart TV set is to use add (not substitute) a TV streamer.

This device has the ability to send the TV sound over Bluetooth to the Hearing Aids, and has the added notion that you can SELECT its output using a program in your hearing aid Helper app on your phone. To set up, you pair the Streamer and your phone ONCE in advance, and never have to pair it again. It does not Un-do the pairing with your phone in any way.

I use such a device on my Sony TV set, and the program that appears in the hearing aid helper program is called TV/Micro-Mult, add joins the established {All Around, Hear in Noise, Outdoor, and Music}

My hearing Aids are Resound and the helper is called Smart 3D.

TV Streamers such as Resound TV Streamer 2 are available new at about US$300 from your Audiologist, and can be acquired used from sellers on sBay for under US$75.

Punchline:

connect a TV streamer to the iPad, and SELECT its output when desired. No unpairing/re-pairing required.
