MacBook Air: iPhone hotspot internet and Bluetooth issues

Unable to get MacBook Air internet connection via iPhone hotspot. Connection to hotspot is fine, but no internet available.

  • iPhone network settings have been resetted, and both devices have been restarted, no effect.
  • Both are in same wifi network.
  • Wifi router has been restarted.


Bluetooth connection between MacBook Air and iPhone is not created. Devices do not see each other. Bluetooth is on in both devices and they should be visible.

  • iPhone sees MacBook, but says "MacBook Air is not supported”.
  • MacBook does not see iPhone.
  • iPhone and MacBook have been restarted, no effect.

Internet hotspot may not be available to you, depending on exactly what features your cellular network provider offers.


Bluetooth pairing from Mac to iPhone is not a feature. Those devices do not "pair" in the usual sense as one might pair a mouse or a speaker.


Bluetooth must be enabled on those devices to use certain feature such as AirDrop and Handoff, but neither will recognize the other as a paired device.
