Front camera not working after iOS 26.2 update
I updated to iOS 26.2. The front camera stopped working. When I switch cameras, only the rear camera works. What should I do?

You may try some of these steps. Please check after each step...

If none of the above steps resolve the issue, it is recommended to reach out to Apple Support or visit an authorized service center for further assistance. They can provide specific guidance based on your device model and iOS version.

I had the same issue with the front camera - stopped working, phone wasn’t recognizing it for a few days. I reached out to Apple Support today & they had me do a full reset by erasing all contents after I backed up everything on my iCloud first. An hour later, the front camera is working and all apps are re-downloading.
You’re welcome. Yes, I want you to backup, erase and then restore. It’s worked for others with same issue.
First step.

This did not work unfortunately. After backing up to cloud, erasing everything then restoring from icloud, we got to the face ID setup and the front camera was black again. We skipped the step and went into the camera app. Back camera working but when flipping to the front camera, it just crashes.
Then it's time to schedule a visit to your Apple Store Genius Bar for service options --> Genius Bar Reservation and Apple Support Options - Apple
There's really nothing else anyone here can offer you at this point.
Just to confirm, Apple Support had you backup her iPhone to iCloud and erase the iPhone and then restore the iPhone from the iCloud backup you just made, correct?
If not, that’s the next step and has proven to be the solution of other community members participating in this thread.

Im having the same problem with the update. My brother, sister, and daughter are now having the exact same issues but the issues did not occur for any of us until the update. So I think it’s pretty safe to say that it is definitely the update doing this. I just hope there is a way to fix this because nothing I’ve tried has worked on any of our phones…
If the update caused the front camera to stop working, it would have done it for everyone, but it didn't. So we can safely say it may be coincidence. Every device I have is running iOS 26.2. None are having any issues with the front camera.
After EVERY iOS update, the first thing I do is Force Restart my iPhone and I have never had a coincidental iOS update failure, ever. Do this and see if normal operation returns --> Force restart iPhone - Apple Support
And remember this procedure to do after each new update you install.
Had the exact same problem, front and rear cameras, and doing a factory reset and then restoring from a back up was the only thing that worked for me. Not convenient to have to do it, but better than having my camera fail every time I tried to take a picture..!
Here two Apple Support articles that may be of assistance.

That's the exact same problem I have, running iOS 26.2 on iPhone 12. It was happening on the previous version too (26.1 I guess) which is why I updated, but it made no difference. Guess I need to back up and factory reset, the more advanced version of the tried and tested "switch it off and switch it on again" solution. Doh.
I have an iPhone 14. The front and rear camera stop working regularly after I upgraded to iOS 26, the picture becomes blurry or black. A restart fixes the issue until "something" triggers the issue to occur again.
Today I'll install 26.2.1 hopefully it resolves the re-occurring issue.

So my rear camera does not work the front camera works poorly as it can't focus very well but after a few minutes it does focus and i can take a selfie. What's strange is i can take a video and the video works with the rear camera but not the camera to take a picture. I have to do a short video for a picture. let's hope 26.3 fixes the issue.
Personally, based on what you've described, something is wrong with your iPhone. Waiting for iOS 26.3 to magically fix an issue most aren't having doesn't seem the best course of action. I'd be scheduling an appointment at my Apple Store Genius Bar and have Apple test my phone to see what is wrong --> Genius Bar Reservation and Apple Support Options - Apple
Don’t do the reset as it doesn’t work. We have to wait for another pole to do the next software update.
Same problem with upgrade to iOS 26.2 on iPhone 15
-burst mode on front camera can work
-selfie camera can work
-front camera shows picture being taken (sometimes) but never saves photo. Also front camera video can freeze and then camera restarts.
-front camera video works
It's not always the iOS update's fault! Many things can cause phone problems. If you tell people you think it's an iOS update, it might make it harder to fix or find a solution for the real issue.

Remember, the right question often leads to the solution!

Was/Is your device Jailbroken? If that's the situation, please be informed that attributing the issues to iOS updates may not be accurate.

iOS updates aim to enhance user experience, boost security, and fix bugs rather than disrupt core features. The majority of the issues after updates might stem from underlying, unmentioned factors. Updates won't typically alter personal data but may refine settings or features. Backup before major updates for safety. Review Apple's update details and backup advice for a smooth process.
Kindly consider checking your settings and addressing any device issues before attributing the issue to external factors. This could be a pure coincidence that the iOS update affected the iPhone functions.
Before initiating a standard iOS update, it's advisable to create a backup. Have you completed this step? If yes, proceed with the restoration from the backup.

We have to wait till Apple does a software update. They messed it up on iOS 26 pretty normal for Apple too mess up the camera on Apple updates going back to the last few updates.
Wouldn't you expect if Apple messed something up on iOS 26, it would have messed it up for everyone? It didn't. In fact, very few people are reporting issues with their front camera on iOS 26. So advising someone to not restore their phone and to wait for an update, which is likely never going to address front camera issues, which is not affecting many people isn't great advice.
