Import CD track error message

Every time I try to import a CD to Music on my MacBook Air I get an error message for each track. It was fine in iTunes but things are different and I can't find real instructions.

The message I always get is "Error occurred while converting the file “Track 01”. An unknown error occurred (-54)." I get the same message for each track I try.

Can this be fixed? Thank you in advance.

MacBook Air 13″, macOS 14.8

I see that you are running Sonoma.

With that in mind, make sure that Music has "Removable Volumes" permission.

In Sonoma, you might be able to add this directly. When I upgraded from Ventura to Sequoia, bypassing Sonoma, I tried to add this preemptively, but found no way to do that. Then I ran Music, and it asked me for permission, and I granted it. After that the switch showed up. So if you can't add the switch directly to System Settings/Preferences, it might turn out that you need to run Music and let it add the switch.

Hi Honbun,

Re: Import CD track error message:

On my Mac, I choose to keep music from CD's in a separate folder. It is easy to double-click the CD icon on the desktop, and drag and drop a track file (or all track-files on the CD) from the CD to the folder .. it may take a while, and the progress-bar shows how long to go.

For Importing directly to Music Library from the CD:

Here's Apple Support's online article for MacOS 14 Sonoma:

Import songs from CDs into Music on Mac - Apple Support

Eg: gives directions,

eg: "The default encoding format is AAC. To change formats, see Change import settings.."

There is much "how to" information in the linked aticle ... and also trouble-shooting tips underneath.

There's a useful resource online: See the "Table of Contents" for topics, leading to detailed "how to" articles.
