Apple Account 2-Factor Authentication Problem

Hi, I recently created a new apple account via the Apple Music app on the Microsoft Store, and when I tried to sign into that account through account.apple.com/sign-in , everything was going fine until it asked me to verify my phone number to set up 2-factor authentication on the new account. I keep getting an error message saying “An unknown error has occurred” whenever I put in the verification code that apple texts me, and I don’t know how to fix it.

If it helps, the iPhone that my phone number is on has another different apple account on it (my family member’s account), but the 2fa should be on his phone number, so I don’t know if it is related to that?

Any help is much appreciated, thank youuu 🙏🙏

This is almost certainly the explanation.

Have you previously established this iPhone number as a trusted phone number on your Apple Account?

It sounds like the answer is ‘No.”

I cannot personally tell you how to proceed, as I personally know nothing about setting up an Apple Account using a method not involving an Apple device.

Thanks for your help! This is probably the issue, since I had checked on my iPhone and my number isn’t listed as a trusted phone number, but I’m a bit confused as to how this even affects the set-up of the 2fa. My thinking here is that if it’s not connected to any apple account as a trusted number, then shouldn’t my number be free to use on this new one?

I also might try logging out of my family member’s account on my iPhone and sign in through there if it changes anything, maybe it’ll let me in?

Tysm againnn 🙏🙏

For a generic, numeric, unknown "error”, or simply unhelpful messages, I suggest you contact Apple.

If you do not see your issue, keep experimenting with any series of selections until you reach one that offers a chat session or a telephone call and get the representative to redirect you.
