virtual keyboard popping up using magic keyboard

I was having this problem with an M4 iPad Pro. I could dismiss the virtual keyboard, but as soon as I tried to type anything the virtual keyboard would reappear. None of the settings tweaks I found online helped. I was able to fix the problem by rebooting the iPad. It had not been restarted for about six weeks.

It seems I had a completely different problem. The Magic Keyboard failed. One symptom was that the caps lock key wouldn’t illuminate. I bought a new keyboard.

Tap the virtual keyboard’s dismiss button.
