Can I exchange an iPhone 17 purchased as a gift for the correct model?

If you need a second confirmation, Zachyy is right. It's months too late to return the phone, whether it has been opened or not. A phone purchased in September, could have been returned 14 days for the date of purchase. If it's the wrong phone, sell it to someone, then use the money you get and use that towards the phone you'd rather buy.

From Apple you have only 14 days to exchange. Other retailers may be different, but likely too late since it's been over 3 months.
