Turn Off ALL VPNs:
Are you using a VPN, here?If so, turn it off.
Single-Out this User:
Create a new Administrator user, and see if you get this same error. If not, then it is an issue with your current user. If not, then it is a system wide issue.
Thanks, we are solo here, no VPN. I am hearing the power port can overdrive the multiport, so have that on the 1st port now. Trying to get that 2nd port with the Powlaken recognized. Still no joy.. I just moved so have great wifi. Other than watching a movie on the tiny big screen on HDMI. Thanks for help!!!

Confirm your Connection:
Go to: Utilities > Terminal > Use this command:
ifconfig
Is an IP address shown?
Ping a Site:
By pinging a site, see if you get a successful reply. Use this command in Terminal:
ping google.com
Read a Site:
Use this command in Terminal, and see if you get info about the site:
whois google.com
what its status?
what's its IP Address?
what make&model adapter are you using?
