Random loss of sound

Since updating my iPad 8th gen to iOS 26, I randomly will lose all sound (music, websites, streaming, keyboard clicking noises) from the speakers. The only resolution is to shutdown/restart the iPad.

If I use headphones, the sound works, but nothing will come from the speakers until a restart. I've tried manually closing applications and even reset the entire iPad twice, but it still happens multiple times a day.

I hoped updating to iOS 26.2 would resolve it, but it's still happening. Is there a setting I'm missing?

Without explicit details of precisely what you may or may not have tried, try following this methodical and well proven sequence of troubleshooting steps... some of which you may have already tried in isolation.

Begin with a forced-restart - as this will often clear an isolated software issue:

Force restart iPad (models with the Home button)

Press and hold the top button and the Home button at the same time. When the Apple logo appears, release both buttons.

Force restart iPad (models with Face ID or with Touch ID in the top button)

If your iPad doesn’t have the Home button, do the following:

  1. Press and quickly release the volume button nearest to the top button.
  2. Press and quickly release the volume button farthest from the top button.
  3. Press and hold the top button.
  4. When the Apple logo appears, release the top button.

If the problem persists after performing the restart, it may be necessary to reset your iPad settings. While this reset will not cause any loss of data, as a precaution, it is always wise to ensure that you have a current iCloud or iTunes backup before performing the reset:

When you are happy to proceed, you can perform the reset from iPad settings:

Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPad > Reset > Reset All Settings

If the problem still doesn’t clear, the next step is to reset the iPad to factory settings:

I was hoping that the system reset would’ve taken care of it, but it didn’t. What in the world is going on why hasn’t Apple fix this problem? I’m not the only one having it because I’ve seen blogs all over the place that people are sick and tired of it just like me. Some won’t even update because they’re afraid that by updating their iPhone and iPads it was through theirs up too. My daughter’s have iPad 8 and it didn’t mess up their volume. But mine is a 9 and it has messed it up royally. Why hasn’t Apple fixed this bug?

I have restarted my iPad so many times I’m afraid the button is going to wear out! I’ve even started going into settings to shut it down because of the fear of that happening. I’ve also done a reset and it didn’t help it at all. All of these problems with the volume started after the 26 update! None of the bug fixes and updates since that initial 26 has helped it at all! I’m not the only one having problems. There’s thousands of people posting it online on numerous platforms! Apple needs to get their act together. This is ridiculous!!!
