PF / PFCTL breaks iCloud Private Relay for no apparent reason

sudo pfctl -e

Private Relay Unavailable: some system settings prevent iCloud Private Relay from working properly.

sudo pfctl -d

Private Relay Active.

Anyone has any idea of what is happening here? AFAIK, I have not changed anything in the PF settings, the configuration files are untouched.

Mac Studio, macOS 26.2

  • “sudo pfctl -e” - This command enables packet filtering.
  • “sudo pfctl -d” - This command disables packet filtering.

Packet filtering interferes with iCloud Private Relay. See “If your Mac system settings prevent Private Relay from working“ here.
