You’ll need enough room on the Windows PC for the firmware download.

Update Windows, and install or check for updates for the Apple Devices app. (Not iTunes)

You should be using the Apple Devices app on your PC if it is available. The firmware will be downloaded to the computer, so if you are getting an error that there is not enough room to download, then you need to free up space on your computer. After it is downloaded to the computer, then it will install from the PC to the iPhone. You are correct that you do not want to download from ipsw.me. Both Mac/PC instructions are available here.

I restored the device using the Apple Devices app. First, I put it in recovery mode and connected it to my PC. A pop-up appeared showing an update and restore option, which I selected. Then it began downloading a 10.8GB file, but my internet connection was slow and the estimated time was 60 minutes. My device exited recovery and the download status page disappeared. I waited for 60 minutes and checked the appdata on my PC’s C drive, confirming the file was being downloaded. I then put the device back into recovery mode and flashed it. However, after restarting, the Apple Devices app activated my device, but I was setting it up through Device Manager, entering my account. The PC then gave me an activation error message. My device was still on and running, but now it’s working. However, I’m having trouble activating iMessage.

Can you tell me the process??I couldn’t find it in youtube,,and should i have to put the iphone in recovery mode to download the firmware??

The process is listed in the Support Article attached in both posts. It is not required to place your device in Recovery Mode and that only needs done if you do not see the device appear on the PC or you get an error when restoring. You need to sign out of Find My and if you had not done that previously you will be prompted to do that on your Phone before the Restore can continue. Let us know which steps you are able to complete and where it fails along with any error messages you may see.

There are 2 distinct processes, the download is being done on your PC where you need the space on your computer in order to store the update, then it will move to the install process where the download on the PC is used to restore the iPhone.

And that answer was NO, you don't need to put your device into recovery mode to have a fresh copy of the OS installed. Using the supplied link to connect the device to a computer will completely erase the device and reinstall the OS without putting the device in Recovery Mode. The only time recovery mode is needed is when the device does not show up on the computer when plugged in or the standard Restore method using the link produces an error.

If the documented reset sequence previously linked is not working, it’s also possible the iPhone has a hardware problem.
