Since January 1st, 2026, it seems Apple has allowed ADS to be displayed, Apple News, at the bottom of the screen when playing games, et.al.
Forgive me if I'm wrong, but, did Apple give people any warning ?
No VPN or ad blocker will stop ads.

Ads are seen in the Apple News app, there was no change on January 1st. Some games are ad supported where the revenue goes to the Developer of the game and Apple receives no money from those ads. The developer of the game chooses whether they want to support ad generated revenue or not and you were never able to remove an ad from those games with a VPN or ad blocker. Some developers will have an in-app purchase that can be made to remove the ads, but that is entirely up to them, not Apple.
