Apple News ads - Just took a turn for the worse!! What the HECK?!?!

It is almost impossible to scroll through a story with out a FULL SCREEN ad popping up. If the mid-scroll ad is even barely touched, just to swipe past it, it pops up. Right now, it is TurboTax ads that seem to be doing this. It appears that other ads are not as sensitive to the slightest touch like the TurboTax setting. I am able to reproduce the affect. Slightly touch a Turbotax ad just to scroll past it...it pops up. Only way around it is to make sure to stop before the ad, or after the ad, to have a place to touch to swipe.

Apple...please fix this quick or AppleNews is going in the trash quick!

It is also very annoying that articles that are FREE elsewhere, are behind the pay wall inside Apple news. I get if you Apple is going to restrict something that is NOT free out in the open, but stop playing games with free content.

I will not deny that AppleNews is a pretty good agregator. But the new twist on ADS, and the frequent PAYWALL game...I won't keep it around.

Thanks for listening.

Ive had Premier Apple for only a week and the news section is def the weakest because of all the adds. Paying the premium price I would have thought there would be minimal adds.

Apple News contains ads whether you have a subscription or not. The subscription includes access to additional content and that is all. You can send Feedback to Apple here:

Depending on what services you are using and if you need Family Sharing, you may be better off without the Premier plan that includes Apple News+ and be able to choose either the Individual or Family plan for Apple One or even sign up for only the services that you want. I can. I came here for the same reason.

Then you found the link for Feedback to let Apple know how you feel. If you prefer to use a different news aggregator, there are plenty in the App Store, or if you find a website that will aggregate stories that works better, you can create a web app and save it on your Home Screen for easy access.

I use Apple New daily and as muguy said, I have never had a full screen ad appear without interaction. Obviously if I tap on an ad it will open, but not by scrolling past it. Some don't like the fact that paid content is included in the feeds, even though it is labeled as Apple News+ content, and that is the nature of the app where you have the same choices: Send Apple your feedback, or use an app that works better for your needs.

I think for the OP that describes the ad opening while they are tapping the ad to scroll past it, they need to adjust their Tap duration, or may have previously changed it to respond quicker. You can find the Setting here to adjust how long it takes for a touch to be recognized as a tap.

Thanks Mac Jim ID. I will try your suggestions…including Feedback. Perhaps this is a beta issue. I have deleted Apple News for the time being. Whatever Apple did, an ad became more sensitive to a slight touch. As long as I avoided even the slightest touch, I could get past the ad. IOW, if I was scrolling, and an Intuit TurboTax ad appeared, I just had to make sure I swipe scrolled enough or touched just above, to the outside edge or below an ad. Totally atypical behavior….recreated over and over on iPhone 17 and 15. And it just started. I made no setting changes. And it affects ads on the Stock App news feed as well. Just the TurboTax ads. Other ads are not swipe sensitive.

You are incorrect. The ads are activating with any contact. You are forced to touch the ad to scroll past it and any amount of contact with or without a slide to move the page will register and open a pop-up. This is not the case with any other app on IOS including other ads.

I also pay for Apple News, so I have every right to address issues with it both here and directly with Apple.
