iMovie stuck on Music permission screen on iPad

iMovie Permissions

I have a new IPad running 18.7.3.

I’m trying to open IMovie v 3.0.5 and keep getting hung up and the initial permission screen. It says “IMOVIE NEEDS ACCESS” and then the permission for photos is green, which is good, then the Music there is a RED X.

I have triple checked the permissions and it looks all good. Its the Music portion this is a mystery. Tried deleting both apps and re installed and still can’t get past the initial permission screen. I didn’t see any permission in the Music app settings either.

Help!

Re: iMovie stuck on Music permission screen on iPad : "iMovie needs access"

You may need to give iMovie permission to use the camera and microphhone:

See: Control access to hardware features on iPad - Apple Support

Eg: says:

Review or change access to the camera, microphone, and other hardware features

  1. Go to Settings  > Privacy & Security.
  2. Tap a hardware feature, such as Camera, Bluetooth, Local Network, or Microphone.

The list shows the apps that requested access. You can turn access on or off for any app on the list.

Note: Whenever an app uses the camera (including when the camera and microphone are used together), a green indicator appears. An orange indicator appears at the top of the screen whenever an app uses the microphone without the camera. Also, a message appears at the top of Control Center to inform you when an app has recently used either.

Add songs and other audio files to your iMovie project - Apple Support

Eg: says:

iMovie can access songs from your music library in the Music app on your device, as well as any audio files stored on your device, in iCloud Drive, or in another location

______________________________

Add songs from your music library

You can add songs from your music library that you’ve downloaded to the Music app on your device, as well as songs and other audio files that have been synced to your device using the Music app on your Mac.

  1. With your project open in the iMovie timeline, tap the Add Media button.
  2. Tap Audio, tap My Music, then tap a category to browse songs.
  3. Tap a song to preview it. If a song is dimmed, locate the song in the Music app, then tap the Download button for the song to download it to your device. If you can't find a particular song that you want to use, learn more about why it might not be available
  4. To add the song to your project, tap the Add Audio button next to a song. iMovie automatically places the song at the beginning of the project and automatically fits it to the length of the project.

You can change the length the song like you would any other clip. You can also use more than one song in a project. For example, if you want to change the mood of the music over the course of your movie, you can shorten the first song in the timeline, then place a different song after the first song.

Add other audio files

You can add audio files like M4A, MP4, MP3, WAV, and AIFF files stored on your device, in iCloud Drive, or in another location.

  1. If the audio file you want to add is less than a minute long, scroll the timeline in your iMovie project so that the playhead (the white vertical line) appears where you want to add the audio file.
  2. Tap the Add Media button, then tap Files to browse files in iCloud Drive or other locations.
  3. Tap a file to add it to your project.

If you add an audio file that’s longer than one minute long, it behaves like a song in your project. Files less than one minute long appear where you placed the playhead."
