If you are relying on Airprint for printing and you have not installed the Epson drivers, you must install the drivers.

For Monterey (12.7.6) the Epson ET3850 drivers are here:

https://epson.com/Support/Printers/All-In-Ones/ET-Series/Epson-ET-3850/s/SPT_C11CJ61201?review-filter=macOS+12.x+%28Monterey%29

When you install the drivers, if given the option to install the Epson Scanner driver, Epson Scan 2 & Epson Scan Smart, install all of them.

OTOH, you can use Vuescan with the ET3850 without installing any drivers.

Also, for scanning you should be using a USB (wired) connection to the ET3850, not wireless.

If that problem number is an Apple Support number assigned to you, then continue working with Apple Support. These communities are not official Apple Support, and no Apple employees participate in these strictly fellow user-supported public communities. We attempt to answer questions when or if we get to them.

Your networked (wired, wireless) Epson ET-3850 device is supported by Apple's built-in AirPrint service and does not require Epson printer drivers or software for usage.

With the device powered and connected to the same network segment, you do the following:

    1. Visit System Settings > Printers & Scanners panel
      1. Remove the ET-3850 from the Printers panel either by clicking the [-] button, or right-clicking on the printer entry and choosing Reset Printing System…
      2. Select Add Printer…

Your Epson device should appear on the Add Printer panel discovered on the network by Apple's Bonjour service. Click that entry to select it, and that will automatically cause the Use selector to configure AirPrint. Just click the Add button, and back in the Printers panel, right-click on the new entry and choose Set Default Printer.

Regardless, both of our friends, @MartinR and @VikingOSX, have provided good guidance that you can follow to troubleshoot and hopefully resolve your scanner issue.

Good luck, my friend. 🍀
