Mac can't see scanner while epson app can

My MacBook doesn't offer my Epson FF-680W scanner as an option, whilst the Epson ScanSmart software can. I want to use the scan instruction from the Apple menu rather than through Epson. Ive restarted both to no avail. The mac is on Sonoma 14.1.1 and Ive updated the Epson software

You might be able to get it with Image Capture application from Apple if the scanner plugs via USB.

You might also find the scanner is available with SANE open source scanner drivers.

Hamrick Vuescan is a popular stand alone application that supports many third party scanners.

Unfortunately many scanners do not follow standard drivers for Apple.

An old official standard which may also work is TWAIN. An option in Photoshop. I would contact Epson support and ask them if they can improve their Mac OS drivers for Sonoma.
