microphone not working on google chrome. works on other apps but not google

dictation works on macbook pro, in word and other programs, e.g. messaging, but it does not work on chrome browser. the microphone does not work with chrome. so virtual calls w google meet not working. video w zoom works. only issues w chrome

You may need to grant Chrome access to the mic.
