Will Apple replace my expensive screen protector if my phone needs to be replaced?

Will Apple replace my expensive screen protector if my phone needs to be replaced?

I have a new phone that I did not insert a sim into or use outside of its box until I had a screen protector and case on it. I had a relatively expensive screen protector installed at a phone shop because it’s the specific one I like and has a lifetime warranty. It’s 50AUD which is a decent chunk of the purchase price of the actual phone (I bought a 16E).

I suspect this phone needs replacing as straight out of the box it’s glitchy and noises and sounds repeat (like if I set an alarm and stop the alarm, the last portion of the alarm tone will repeat itself upon the alarm being stopped); sometimes the keyboard goes silent despite not being on silent mode and then randomly turns itself on again, and sometimes taps don’t register. I'm not sure that it's not just teething issues, but I am pretty convinced the phone is faulty.

I will go to the Apple Store tomorrow but am worried that if my phone needs replacing, I’ll need to buy a new screen protector myself as it's not like my current one is broken so I can't claim a warranty replacement. It's a significant chunk of the phone's purchase price. I know I purchased the screen protector myself, but if I need to replace it out of pocket I find this really unfair as it’s not my fault or the screen protector manufacturer’s fault that the phone is faulty.

I think Apple should do something about this but can’t find anything saying Apple will. Can anyone help me? I want the new phone feeling but am just feeling sad and disappointed.

Hello~ No …Apple will not replace the screen protector. Out of curiosity I checked and 50 AUD is $33.43 USD. While an added expense it’s something you will need to bear the cost to replace. From your post I thought perhaps it was a $300 USD screen protector. Contact the manufacturer…perhaps they will replace it for you.

My phone cost 800AUD (it’s the 16E) and my screen protector cost 49AUD so basically 50AUD. That’s not a huge chunk but if I need to buy another one and it’s sounding like I will, that’s $100 spent on screen protectors! I get an anti glare one from a phone shop in the shopping complex where I bought my phone, I get it because they apply it for me and also replace it if it cracks. It would be cheaper to just get an Amazon one but I like knowing that my screen is safe and have had few instances of my screen protector ever getting damaged in the past so I trust this brand. I regret not using and testing my phone before getting the screen protector put on but it’s really not my fault that my phone is faulty. I’m really upset.

If that's the one you prefer, that's up to you. I have absolute confidence in the ESR Corning Glass screen protectors and I've used them for years now.

But you can be assured Apple will not cover the cost of your screen protector if your phone needs to be replaced.

Nope. Apple won't replace your screen protector if your phone needs to be replaced. I am curious to know what screen protector could cost a "decent chunk" of the price of an iPhone? This year, I chose ESR Corning Glass (the same glass as Apple uses) for my iPhone. They're antireflective and super high quality. They cost about $35 and you get three of them in case you ever need to replace one. They're also the best screen protector I've ever used.

I don’t think I’m the only one that slaps a screen protector on as soon as I get a phone. It’s normal practice. Phones are expensive and I don’t want to scratch the screen with keys or other things.

Also why should the onus be on me, a consumer, to test it first and not on the multi billion dollar company to get its main product right?

As others have said, you are not addressing Apple here but your fellow end users. Apple will not see your displeasure in this user-to-user comminity. If you want an Apple answer, ask Apple.

I know I can get cheaper screen protectors but I can also get an android phone - I get the brands I trust. It’s about the principle that if my phone is faulty because of Apple and I’ve suffered damage directly due to that then shouldn’t I be compensated? I literally bought the screen protector and started using the phone yesterday and instead of the Apple experience I’m getting a glitchy phone and another $50 bill I don’t want to pay

Even if I buy the ESR one it’s a cost I wouldn’t otherwise be incurring if it weren’t for my phone being faulty out of the box - whether it’s ESR or another brand I just don’t see why it should be me paying for a new screen protector when it’s not my fault but Apple’s that my phone is faulty out of the box

It has been that way for ever. I would no more buy a £30 screen pritector than buy an Apple cleaning cloth. Money to burn?

Look if you want a cheap screen protector you do you, but whether it’s $50 or $3 I think it’s lame that Apple won’t do something when Apple is at fault and I am not and I have to incur additional expense due to it. I thought the Apple difference was mainly its service and quality but instead I get a glitchy phone and apparently no service. I don’t see why nobody gets my perspective here.

Why would you start accesorizing before testing out the phone? Sorry but that is on you, not Apple

I don’t see why nobody gets my perspective here.

Because it is your fault, not Apple's. Next time, make sure your phone is fully functional before adding accessories.

I don’t buy phones so frequently that I know what to test, these are just issues I’ve noticed now that I’m actually using the phone.

Again, take it up with Apple. There is just no point in continuing to argue your position with us.
