iPhone 15 Pro autofill and apps use incorrect name

I have a 15 Pro. It suddenly started using a different first and last name when I have an auto fill page.

Also, when some of my apps call me by name, they use the other name.

The name is in my contacts, but not anyone I’ve spoken to in years.

I’ve looked through topics, but don’t see this issue.

For Autofill

Check your My Card  (this is the big one). This is the most common culprit.

  1. Open Contacts
  2. Tap My Card at the top
  3. (or: Lists → My Card)
  4. If it shows the wrong name:
    1. Tap Edit
    2. Correct the name or
    3. Tap Link Contacts and link it to your actual contact
  5. Make sure your correct name is the primary one

If the old person’s (Previous iPhone Owner) contact somehow became “My Card”, iOS will treat them as you everywhere.

Why do some apps call you by last name  instead of first

Apps don’t all agree on what “your name” means. Many of them grab whatever field iOS marks as the “display name”, and that depends on Contacts formatting, not common sense.

The possible trigger: Your iPhone is likely set to display contacts as:

Last Name, First Name

When an app blindly grabs the first visible field, it ends up calling you by your surname. Congratulations — you’ve been promoted to royalty or a school register.

The app developer may not have updated their software to ensure compatibility with the iOS version your device is currently running.

If you encounter any challenges with third-party applications, the best course of action is to directly contact the app developer for further assistance. Here's a brief guide on how to do it:

  1. Identify the app developer.
  2. Visit their website or app store listing.
  3. Look for their contact information or support channels.
  4. Clearly describe the issue you are facing.
  5. Provide any necessary information they may need.
  6. Follow their instructions and provide feedback.
  7. Be patient and follow up if needed.

By reaching out to the app developer, you increase your chances of receiving accurate and personalized support for the challenges you're experiencing. To contact an App developer --> How to contact an app developer - Apple Support
